sustainability

At Delfina, we believe that sustainability is a journey, not a destination. Our commitment to sustainable practices is an ongoing effort rooted in continuous learning and improvement. Some practices have organically become part of our business over the years, while others are recent strides fueled by a constantly expanding understanding of how we can do business that makes a positive impact for both the planet and society.

The content below reflects our current efforts towards a more sustainable future. You can expect this page to be a constant work in progress, evolving and improving as we find new better ways to do business.

Products

long-lasting products

Our swimwear is designed to endure the hardest abuse of top professional aquatic athletes in any conditions.

The durability of the fabrics that we use transcends industry norms, making our swimwear last two times longer in water with chlorine than standard fabrics.

Creating long-lasting products meant to be used for years is one of the most significant ways to reduce the demand for raw materials, energy, and resources. The result is a positive contribution to the health of our Planet while providing the highest possible quality to our customers.

Recycled Materials

Our sports swimwear is crafted exclusively from eco-friendly fabrics that uncompromisingly combine environmental responsibility and high-performance functionality.

Each fabric used in our collection is composed of 51-78% recycled materials, reflecting our dedication to minimizing our ecological footprint. Partnering with Carvico, a renowned Italian fabric producer with a strong sustainability vision, ensures that our swimwear not only meets the highest quality standards but also aligns with our commitment to responsible and ethical practices.

Sustainable stretch

Sustainable stretch? Yes, the stretch in one of our most used fabrics comes from the special XLANCE® yarn. This unique yarn imparts elasticity through a solvent-free, clean melt spinning process, eliminating the need for hazardous solvents. With 100% of its electric power sourced from renewable energy and a low heat-set temperature, XLANCE® significantly reduces the CO2 emissions associated with the production process by 44%.

Importantly, its remarkable chemical and physical resistance ensures low microplastic release, even under harsh conditions, addressing one of the most prevailing environmental issues associated with the textile industry.

Water-based inks

The ink that we use for our sublimation printing is water-based, ensuring vibrant designs while being environmentally conscious. Importantly, our inks are free from Alkylphenolethoxylates (APEs). These substances, often found in traditional printing processes, can break down into harmful components that persist in the environment and pose risks to aquatic life. By steering clear of APEs, we are committed to providing you with not only high-quality and colorful swimwear but also a choice that minimizes our impact on the Earth's ecosystems.

Free repairs

When we say our swimwear is meant to last we really stand by our words. We are proud to offer repairs for your competitive swimsuit, no matter if it is Delfina or another brand. And we do that for free.

By extending the lifespan of competitive swimwear, we reduce the demand for new production and mitigate the environmental impact associated with manufacturing and disposal. This approach actively addresses the issue of textile waste, contributing to a more sustainable textile industry.

Repairing garments aligns with a circular economy model, minimizing resource consumption and promoting responsible consumption habits.

Green Energy

Solar panels

At Delfina, we take pride in our eco-conscious investments in renewable energy. 90% of our total energy consumption comes from the power of the sun, harnessed by the solar panels mounted on the rooftop of our HQ.

Since their installation in February 2023, these solar panels have generated over 75,000 kWh of clean solar energy, effectively powering our operations.

This accomplishment translates into substantial environmental benefits equivalent to 30.34 tons of standard coal saved, 36.03 tons of CO₂ emissions avoided, and the positive impact of planting 50 trees.

This data is collected from FusionSolar, the software that we use for managing and monitoring our solar energy generation.

Energy efficient sewing machines

Switching to energy-efficient sewing machines is a pivotal step towards enhancing sustainability in the textile industry. These machines are designed to minimize energy consumption while maintaining optimal performance, thereby reducing the overall carbon footprint of the manufacturing process. By incorporating energy-efficient sewing machines into our operations, we significantly decrease energy costs and contribute to a greener environment.

ENERGY EFFICIENT LIGHTS

Another small yet impactful change that we have incorporated in our facilities is embracing energy efficient lightning through LED bulbs. They are designed to use significantly less energy while providing the same, if not better, illumination than traditional counterparts.

Plug-in hybrid cars

A substantial 75% of our company's vehicles are plug-in hybrids. By embracing this eco-conscious choice in our daily operations, we actively contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions and air pollution. This commitment aligns with the global shift towards cleaner and more eco-friendly transportation.

Operations

bulk packaging

We've made a conscious choice to ship exclusively in bulk packaging, foregoing individual packaging for each swimwear piece. Instead, we utilize one large package for as many items as possible, significantly reducing our reliance on plastic. This practice saves up to several hundreds units of plastic packaging, depending on the size of the order.

On-Demand Manufacturing

On-demand manufacturing is an approach inherent to Delfina. Our main business is providing clients with customized products, which are produced only after they are ordered.

This business model allows for eliminating excess inventory and substantially reducing waste, resulting in cutting down on energy consumption and carbon emissions associated with overproduction.

On-demand manufacturing not only allows us to offer unique, personalized products but also underscores our dedication to responsible practices that prioritize both customer satisfaction and environmental stewardship.
